Introducing Domaine Viticole de la Ville de Colmar

Founded in 1895 by the famous ampelograph Chrétien OBERLIN, the Domaine Viticole de la Ville de Colmar enjoys a particularly privileged situation in the heart of the vines of Alsace, in the capital of the Alsatian wines.

Mr and Mrs Jean-Rémy HAEFFELIN manage the estate and produce high quality wines from exceptional vineyard sites in the respect and the originality of its soils.

Domaine Viticole de la Ville de Colmar owns the Clos St Jacques, its vineyard from the Harth near the winery, as well as the prestigious Domaine des Hospices Civils Louis Pasteur de Colmar.

However, the estate is also spread out on the best hillsides of the surrounding villages where some of the most prestigious Grands Crus are cultivated :
in Eguisheim, the excellent Grand Cru Pfersigberg;
 in Wintzenheim, the astonishing Grand Cru Hengst;
 in Ingersheim, the surprising Grand Cru Florimont;
 in Sigolsheim, the noble Grand Cru Mambourg.

The resulting diversity of the soils produces a range of wines which are out of the ordinary and provide complementary accompaniments to all sorts of dishes.

Owner of 25 hectares of vineyards, the Domaine Viticole de la Ville de Colmar, also wine merchant, purchases its grapes from a variety of remarkable origins and turns them into wine according to tradition and modern wine technology. These wines are commercialised under the name Cellier St Jacques.

The Cellier St Jacques (The Cellar of St Jacques) was founded in 1901 by Gustave BURGER, a pioneering wine grower and founder of the Wine Grower’s Association of Alsace in 1911. In 1924, the Domaine Viticole de la Ville de Colmar has installed in this ancient and historic wine producing property.

ISO 9001 Certification

In November 1998, the Domaine Viticole de la Ville de Colmar set up a quality system according to the ISO 9002 norm which demonstrates our wish to evolve and progress in order to respond as well as possible to the demands and expectations of all our clients.

The certification procedure enables a regrouping of the members of our personnel around a communal objective as well as a more structured organisation of the company, the preservation and use of its know-how and its permanent innovation as a result.

The control of the certification which was performed by the BVQI in July 2000, consists on the evaluation of the work methods, organisation and quality documents of every member of the personnel and it showed that everything was in accordance with the demands of the ISO 9002 norm. Thus we obtained the highly-coveted certificate ISO 9002:1994 as true recognition of our competence and know-how, for the following activities :

Wine-Growing, grape production, wine and grape purchasing, vinification, bottling, labelling, packaging and commercialisation in France and Export markets of Alsace Wines and Crémants of Alsace. Purchasing, labelling, packaging and commercialisation in France and Export markets of Brandies and Liquors.

The Domaine Viticole de la Ville de Colmar is consequently not only the fourth company in Alsace to receive this certificate in the field of wine making but the first in Alsace and the fourth in France to receive it for all activities related to wine making.

Now, ISO 9001 norm, revised and published under its definitive form end 2000, include a new dimension, these of permanent progress. This norm allows us to better identify and understand demands and expectations of our clients, to define an affirmed quality politic and display at all levels quality objectives through a controlled planification. We guide our process measuring their efficacy, analysing measurement results and engaging corresponding amelioration actions. Our quality system is permanently dynamic.

Since the 28th February 2003, Domaine Viticole de la Ville de Colmar is certificated ISO 9001 : 2000 for the whole activities above mentionned.

However, the quality procedure does not stop there. In fact, the certificate only represents the winning of part of the course towards the insurance of total quality. The Domaine Viticole de la Ville de Colmar must now continue its efforts and be willing to constantly adapt and renew its quality system with the aim of always responding to its clients demands as well as possible.

HACCP Certification

Wine is a food product and, for that reason, it must be elaborated, manipulated and conserved with as much care as any other food product. From vineyard to the bottle, passing through cellar, the whole life of the wine is strewed with multiple risks.

This process induce to identify all significant dangers dealing with nutritious consumer security (which can appear at any stage of production, from vineyard culture to bottles sell), to evaluate them and to establish the preventive measures allowing controlling those different risks.

We have established a documentary system concerning all procedures and registrations appropriated at the HACCP principles and their applications.

The certification audit, realised by BVQI according to standard DS3027, has taken place successfully the 19th and 20th of July 2005. Our HACCP system is conformable to norm requirements and work efficiently. So, DOMAINE VITICOLE DE LA VILLE DE COLMAR is now certificated HACCP.
